Dear Wrestling Booster Club Members and your Guests,
Please join us for a celebration to honor the 2011 NCAA Wrestling National Championship Team led by Big Ten Coach of the Year, Cael Sanderson!!
We will gather in the Mount Nittany Club in Beaver Stadium on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 between 5:00 - 6:30 pm, with a brief program beginning at 6:00 pm. The dress is casual and no reply is necessary.
For the first time in 58 years, the Penn State Nittany Lions won the NCAA Wrestling Championship team title in Philadelphia on Saturday. After a three-day session of "WE ARE" chants and hoards of the Nittany Lion faithful sporting their blue and white, Penn State finishes with the first place trophy, five All-Americans and a National Champion, Quentin Wright. The team also set a school record for most points scored at a national tournament and sent three wrestlers to the finals for the fifth time in its history. Junior Frank Molinaro earned his third All-American honor with his trip to the finals and freshman David Taylor advanced to the finals, becoming an All-American in his first season. Two other Nittany Lions, freshman Ed Ruth and sophomore Andrew Long, earned All-American honors as well.
All on the heels of a Big Ten Championship run two weeks ago in which Sanderson led the Nittany Lions to the school's first ever Big Ten Championship and was named Big Ten Coach of the Year. Freshman National Finalist David Taylor was honored as both Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Big Ten Wrestler of the Year while Quentin Wright earned Big Ten Tournament Outstanding Wrestler Honors, giving Penn State a clean sweep of conference awards this year.
We hope you and your guests will join us to honor this tremendous team!
Tim and Melinda Curley
